The Naturalistic Wildlife Garden in London, designed by Kathryn Cox Garden Design Studio, has gained recognition for its innovative design and ecological impact. This award-winning project was featured on the cover and main article of Pro Landscaper Magazine April 24. Showcasing its transformation from an urban courtyard to a thriving natural haven, this garden demonstrates the potential of small urban spaces.

Location

Nestled in West Hampstead, London, this charming Victorian terraced house boasts a south-facing courtyard. Despite its proximity to a bustling train line, the 20sqm area has been expertly converted into a tranquil retreat that feels far removed from its urban surroundings.

Brief

The goal was to craft a tranquil and inspiring natural garden that harmonizes with the home’s Victorian character and its newly refreshed interiors. The client desired a lush planting scheme to soften the urban setting and envisioned replacing the existing limestone paving with a countryside-inspired retreat in the heart of London.

Design

AluExcel, made from high-grade recycled aluminium, provided the perfect solution for defining the garden's contours. Its flexibility allowed for the creation of smooth curves, essential in crafting the organic, countryside-inspired design. The edging's durability and rust-resistant properties ensure long-lasting performance in this biodiverse environment.

The edging provided clean lines between the new permeable clay pavers and planting areas with a clean transition from hard to soft landscaping.

"Kinley AluExcel Mill Aluminium edging was the premium choice for my Naturalistic Wildlife Garden. When designing a small space, every material is paramount. The Kinley edging complements the cream clay pavers perfectly and provides a smart finish. I love how it gives a hint of sparkle in the sunlight, surrounded by colourful planting."
