Footpaths, walkways and recreational areas have traditionally been bordered with concrete pin kerbing or timber edging. Metal landscape edging now offers an alternative with many benefits.
Metal edging is suited to a wide range of surfacing products, including hot-rolled asphalt, resin-bound gravel, rubberised safety surfaces, loose aggregates such as gravel and chippings, and stone or concrete paving.
Metal edging can be easily shaped on-site or pre-formed during manufacture, giving landscapers free rein to express their creativity in combinations of straight lines, sweeping curves and intricate contours.
When installed flush with the path surface, it is almost invisible and won’t detract from the beauty and character of the hard landscaping.
If the edging is designed to be visible, a range of finishes can make the edging blend in or contrast with surrounding hard and soft landscaping features.
Compared with concrete kerbing and timber, metal edging is more resistant to damage caused by machinery, impact, rot and frost.
Aluminium and weathering steel offer excellent corrosion resistance and will be maintenance-free for decades, while galvanised and powder-coated steel offer good corrosion resistance.
Metal edging is 4-5 times faster to install than concrete kerbing, as it doesn’t require a stable concrete base or haunching. Securely fixed in place with metal stakes it is immediately ready for backfilling and surfacing as soon as it has been installed.
Hidden connections between lengths of edging guarantee seamless joints without ugly overlaps, while the lighter weight of metal edging makes installation an easy task.
Heavy-duty Steel Kerb
This heavy-duty steel kerb is the ultimate product for footpath edging. Its strength and durability make it a suitable alternative to concrete kerbing in civil construction.
Supplied in a galvanised finish for corrosion resistance, Bison features a 7mm thick rolled top edge for safety and is manufactured in three heights (75mm, 100mm and 150mm).
Aluminium Landscape Edging
Also suitable for lighter-duty flush fitting with surfaces such as asphalt, tarmac, rubber coating, resin and paving, AluExcel offers the added corrosion resistance of aluminium so is recommended for use in coastal areas. Like Fort, it also features a rolled top edge for safety.
AluExcel is manufactured in six thicknesses ranging from 5mm to 8.5mm and ten heights ranging from 15mm to 150mm.
With a natural mill finish aluminium as standard, AluExcel can also be powder coated to any RAL colour to order.
Steel Landscape Edging
This steel edging is suitable for lighter-duty flush fitting with surfaces such as asphalt, tarmac, rubber coating, resin and paving. Its rolled top edge ensures Fort has no sharp corners, making it a safe option for recreational areas.
Although it has a total folded thickness of 7mm, Fort is easily formed to follow curves and contours and is manufactured in two heights (50mm and 75mm).
Available as standard in galvanised or weathering steel (CorTen, or our more cost-effective alternative), Fort can also be powder coated to any RAL colour.
